During week 45, across syndromic surveillance systems acute respiratory infection indicators were in general stable overall and in line with expected seasonal levels, but with decreases or a stable pattern in younger age groups, and small increases in adults, and a similar pattern has been observed for influenza like illness (ILI) indicators.

During week 45, NHS 111 triaged calls and online assessments for acute respiratory infections (ARI) remained stable and are at or below seasonally expected levels.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 45, GP in-hours consultation rates for influenza-like illness increased, mainly in those aged over 15 years, and are above seasonally expected levels. Upper and lower respiratory tract infection consultation rates also increased in those aged over 15 years, but are in line with seasonally expected levels. Bronchiolitis consultation rates increased in children under the age of 5.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 45, GP out-of-hours contacts for acute respiratory infections and influenza-like illness were stable nationally. Contacts for both syndromes decreased slightly in the 5 to 14 years age group, but small increases were observed in the 15 to 44 age group.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 45, acute respiratory infection attendances stabilised nationally overall and were similar to baseline levels; although the pattern differed by age group. Acute respiratory infections attendances were stable in children aged under 5 years and adults aged 45 years and over but continued to increase in adults aged 15 to 44 years. ED attendances for influenza-like illness (ILI) also stabilised overall but remained above seasonally expected levels. ILI attendances decreased in children aged under 15 years, remained stable in adults aged 15 to 64 years but continued to increase in adults aged 65 years and over. Attendances for acute bronchiolitis increased, particularly in the 1 to 4 years age group, however activity is currently below expected levels for the time of year.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system

During week 45, emergency calls for overdose or ingestion or poisoning increased. Calls for cardiac or respiratory arrest and injuries decreased.
