Syndromic surveillance summary: 7 August 2025 week 31

During week 31, all syndromic ‘impact of heat’ indicators were generally stable and below expected levels for the time of year. There was a small increase observed in COVID-19-like ED attendances and GP in-hours consultations, particularly in adults aged 15 to 44 years.

Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system

During week 31, NHS 111 triaged calls and online assessments for diarrhoea and vomiting continued to decrease. Calls and online assessments for ‘heat exposure or sunburn’ remained stable and were below expected levels for the time of year.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 31, there was a small increase in COVID-19-like consultations, noted in the 15 to 44 years age group. Other respiratory indicators were stable or decreased and similar or below seasonally expected levels. Gastroenteritis and vomiting consultations decreased during week 31, while diarrhoea remained stable.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 31, GP out-of-hours daily contacts for vomiting and diarrhoea remained stable. Daily contacts for ‘chest pain (including myocardial infarction)’ decreased while contacts for ‘heat or sunstroke’ remained stable and below expected levels.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 31, there was a small increase in ‘COVID-19-like’ ED attendances nationally and in adults aged 15 to 44 years. Other respiratory indicators decreased or remained stable and were at or below seasonally expected levels. Attendances for ‘heat or sunstroke’ remained stable during week 31 and similar to levels expected for the time of year.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system

During week 31, daily ambulance calls for ‘impact of heat or cold’ decreased and remained below expected levels for the time of year. there were also further decreases noted in calls for headache, ‘unconscious or passing out’ and allergic reactions during week 31.
