During week 25, there were increases in ‘impact of heat’ indicators across all syndromic surveillance systems. Increases peaked on Saturday 21 June in line with an amber heat health alert in place over England. Activity then decreased on Sunday 22 June. There was also an increase in insect bite indicators and GP in-hours consultations for allergic rhinitis during week 25.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 25, NHS 111-triaged calls and online assessments for ‘heat exposure or sunburn’ increased, in line with an amber heat health alert in place across England. Activity peaked on Saturday 21 June but then decreased on Sunday 22 June. There was also an increase in triaged calls and online assessments for insect bites, particularly over the weekend of 21 to 22 June, and across all regions and age groups.

GP in-hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 25, GP consultation rates for allergic rhinitis continued to increase but remained in line with seasonally expected levels. There was also an increase in consultations for ‘heat or sunstroke’ and insect bites, in line with an amber heat health alert in place across England.

GP out-of-hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 25, GP out-of-hours daily contacts for ‘heat or sunstroke’ increased, peaking on Saturday 21 June, in line with an amber heat health alert in place over England. ‘Heat or sunstroke’ contacts decreased on Sunday 22 June. Contacts for insect bites also increased sharply over the weekend with increases noted across all age groups but particularly adults aged 15 years and over.

During week 25, ED attendances for ‘heat or sunstroke’ increased, peaking on Saturday 21 June in line with an amber heat health alert in place across England. Attendances then decreased on Sunday 22 June.
