Syndromic surveillance summary: 24 February 2022 week 7

During week 7, there were further increases in selected syndromic gastroenteritis indicators now slightly above seasonally expected levels, with increases predominantly in children. Respiratory indicators remain stable.

Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system

During week 7, NHS 111 calls and online assessments for diarrhoea continued to increase nationally; diarrhoea calls increased across all age groups. Sore throat calls and online assessments continued to increase nationally across all age groups.

GP in hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 7, GP consultations for respiratory indicators decreased or remained stable and below seasonally expected levels. Vomiting consultations increased nationally and are just above seasonally expected levels; increases were noted in children aged 1 to 4 and 5 to 14 years.

GP out of hours syndromic surveillance system

During week 7, GP out of hours contacts for respiratory indicators including acute respiratory infections remained stable and similar or below seasonally expected levels. Gastrointestinal contacts increased but remain similar to seasonally expected levels.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system

During week 7, most indicators remained stable or decreased although gastroenteritis attendances continued to increase in children aged under 15 years.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system

COVID-19-like ambulance calls decreased during week 7. Difficulty breathing calls remained stable and below expected levels.
