This series aims to provide information on the characteristics of the parties in, and the key features of, employment tribunal (ET) cases. The headline aims of the 2013 study were to:

  • get information on the characteristics of employment tribunal claimants and employers
  • assess the costs of going to tribunals for claimants and employers
  • monitor the performance of the employment tribunal claim process

This report will be of interest to policy makers and academics studying all aspects of the employment tribunal process for employers and claimants, including the:

  • process before a claim
  • effects of conciliation
  • impact of Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS)
  • costs and benefits of tribunals
  • characteristics of involved parties

The first survey of employment tribunal applications (SETA) was undertaken in 1987, with subsequent surveys undertaken in 1992, 1998, 2003 and 2008.
