Recording UK packaging waste in summary logs: supplementary guidance

Reprocessors and exporters need to use summary logs to record packaging waste activity. Summary logs are spreadsheets that record data about each load that arrives or leaves your site for each registration or accreditation that you hold. 

The template you need will depend on your organisation and operating activity:

  • reprocessor summary logs focus on the waste received by reprocessors at their UK reprocessing sites
  • exporter summary logs capture each load exported to overseas reprocessing sites

Template status

Summary log templates may change until the requirement to complete them comes into force from 1 January 2026. They will not change during 2026. The supplementary guidance may change throughout the year as we receive feedback.

We’re publishing the templates and guidance before 2026 so you can prepare.  

There are currently 2 templates available.

These templates are examples only and illustrate the type of information you will need to provide. Do not use them to enter your real data as the template and guidance may change slightly until 1 January 2026.
