Details of the application

Stroud Valleys Canal Company has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Frome at Brimscombe at two locations at National Grid References SO 86596 02478 and SO 87290 02105.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 312.5 cubic metres an hour

  • 7,500 cubic metres a day

  • 2,737,500 cubic metres a year

Between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for providing a water supply to the Thames and Severn Canal. Further details are: The Environment Agency is proposing to impose bespoke conditions on the licence (if granted) to protect low flows and ongoing geomorphological and ecological monitoring of the River Frome. The Environment Agency is also proposing to restrict abstraction (if authorised) to one abstraction point at a time.
