Details

This strategy is relevant to regulators, businesses and consumers. It summarises the challenges and opportunities of the product safety system and lists the actions the Office for Product Safety and Standards will take forward. These are based around four objectives:

  • analyse
  • inform
  • enforce
  • build

The document also covers governance and accountability.

We will be working in partnership with organisations across the safety landscape. While we will provide a number of specialist services centrally to support consistent national enforcement, including aspects of product testing and technical expertise, there are no changes to the roles and responsibilities of local authorities or other market surveillance authorities.

In addition, the strategy does not lessen any of the legal responsibilities of manufacturers, importers and retailers to present safe products to the market, and to take rapid effective action when safety issues arise with their products.
