The purpose of this paper is to summarise a number of pieces of work that we have undertaken to better understand the challenges of managing radioactive graphite wastes leading to an updated Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) strategic position on graphite waste management. This position statement on the management of waste graphite takes into consideration government’s response to CoRWM recommendation 8 and provides the current NDA strategic position alongside circumstances where this should be reviewed.
