Details

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) published its State of Policing 2022 report in June 2023. It included recommendations on:

  • the responsibility of police and crime commissioners (PCCs), and other bodies, to respond to HMICFRS reports
  • HMICFRS’s role in chief officer appointments
  • the inspection of policing services commissioned by PCCs
  • the power to give directions in relation to a police force
  • the power to direct resources in support of underperforming forces

The Home Secretary responds to each recommendation in this letter.
