We have a received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:
Information in relation to the speedcheck/vysionics speed enforcement system and in particular the security of the fibre optic cable and data protection
We released the following information on 05 November 2012.
The request could refer to either the Speed Violation Detection Deterrent (SVDD) system or the SPECS 3 system. As it is much more widespread and more frequently referred to in the press, the response addressed the SPECS 3 system.
The connection between the cameras and the roadside cabinet may be made using a fibre optic cable. This is a direct connection that has substantial physical security, but does not require, and has no additional data security.
