We have a received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:
Can specs3 average speed cameras be used as standalone camera to record a speed for prosecution?
We released the following information on 9 March 2012:
Due to the manner in which an Automatic Distance/Time Speedmeter (in this case the Specs 3 system) calculates speed it is not possible for a single camera to calculate a fixed point speed. An enforcement zone with a minimum of two camera units is required to calculate the time taken to travel the distance between them - known as the baseline distance.
