Southern Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency to vary a licence .
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 51 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The existing licence authorises abstraction for the purpose of public water supply from surface water within the Parish of Nursling and Rownhams at National Grid Reference SU 35 15. The application is to reduce the authorised daily quantity from 136,380 cubic metres to 105,000 cubic metres when operating under normal conditions, and to reduce the presently authorised annual quantity from 49,915,080 cubic metres to 30,000,000 cubic metres. The application includes a provision for daily abstraction to temporarily return to 136,000 cubic metres per day when flows in the River Itchen are below 240 Mega-litres per day and a Temporary Use Ban is in place.
Limits on three monthly periods of abstraction are also proposed.
The presently authorised hourly quantity of 5,683 cubic metres will remain unchanged.
The Applicant has volunteered to time-limit the abstraction licence to 2027.
