South West Water Limited: application made to abstract water and application made to impound water

South West Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 15/49/272/S/009 which authorises abstraction from surface water at National Grid Reference (NGR) SW 84 62.

The variation applied for is: to also abstract half the available water in the above the dry weather flow of the watercourse, up to a maximum abstraction of 8 megalitres per day, between October and March inclusive rather than all year.

South West Water Limited has also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of surface water at NGR SW 86 62.

The impoundment is authorised by The Newquay and District Water Order, 1957 which specifies a prescribed flow of 120,000 gallons of water per day (546 cubic metres). No other changes to the impoundment are proposed.
