Details of the application

South West Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Lyd at Lifton.

Please note that this notice is an amendment to correct an error in the original application submission as advertised on 22 August 2022, in the calculation of the annual quantity.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 2,000 cubic metres an hour

  • 40,000 cubic metres a day

  • 6,000,000 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for topping up Roadford Reservoir in wetter winter months in order to protect the public water supply during dry summer periods.
