South West Water Limited: application made to abstract water

South West Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The Isles of Scilly were exempt from the requirement to hold licences to abstract water, but this exemption was removed by The Isles of Scilly (Application of Water Legislation) Order 2020, which enacts the relevant parts of the Water Resources Act 1991 and The Environment Act 1995. South West Water Limited have been made the statutory water undertaker and will take over the responsibility for public water supply from the Isles of Scilly Council, the Duchy of Cornwall and a private estate.
The applications are for full licences to abstract groundwater from wells and boreholes, all year for public water supply from 21 locations (combined into 7 groups) on three islands as follows;
St. Marys; 3 points at Higher Moor at a combined rate of 512 cubic metres per day and 95,000 cubic metres per year, 2 points at Lower Moor at a combined rate of 399 cubic metres per day and 76,000 cubic metres per year and from 7 points at Pelistry Bay at a combined rate of 420 cubic metres per day and 218,000 cubic metres per year.
Bryher; 4 points at Pool of Bryher at a combined rate of 151 cubic metres per day and 26,000 cubic metres per year and 1 individual point at a rate of 36 cubic metres per day and 3,000 cubic metres per year.
Tresco; 2 points at North Tresco at a combined rate of 240 cubic metres per day and 28,000 cubic metres per year and 2 points at South Tresco at a combined rate of 125 cubic metres per day and 10,000 cubic metres per year.
