South London secondary school pupils entering higher education, 2010 to 2015

The request asked for the following data on pupils from south London boroughs between 2010 and 2015:

  • how many went on to higher education in the United Kingdom
  • how many went on to Oxford University or Cambridge University
  • how many went on to higher education by
    • their gender
    • their ethnicity

2. Response

You asked for the number of pupils from South London secondary schools that went on to higher education between 2010 and 2015.

The Department for Education begun publishing destination measures in 2012, which show the proportion of students completing key stage 5 and going on to sustained higher education destinations.

The data you requested is contained in Table 1 of the attached file named ‘Key stage 5 south London higher education destinations, 2010 to 2015’ and includes state-funded mainstream schools and colleges. The latest data available is for students entering a destination in 2013 to 2014.

You asked for the number of pupils that went on to Oxbridge across all ethnicities from south London between 2010 and 2015. The data you requested is also contained in Table 1 of the attached file named ‘Key stage 5 south London higher education destinations, 2010 to 2015’ and includes state-funded mainstream schools and colleges. The latest data available is for students entering a destination in 2013 to 2014.

You asked for the number of ethnic minority pupils that went on to higher education in the United Kingdom from south London secondary schools between 2010 and 2015, how many of this number were male and female and which ethnicities these males and females belong to.

Destination measures by student characteristics were first published for students entering a destination in 2010 to 2011. The data you requested is contained in Table 2 of the attached file named ‘Key stage 5 south London higher education destinations, 2010 to 2015’ and includes state-funded mainstream schools and colleges. The data available is for students entering a destination between 2010 to 2011 and 2013 to 2014.

For the purpose of this response we have defined south London as the local authority areas of:
