An application has been made to the Environment Agency by South East Power Engineering Limited. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Thames at Bell Weir, Runnymede, Egham, Surrey at National Grid Reference (NGR) TQ 01642 72131.

The existing weir structure will be altered to install three Archimedean screw turbines and a fish and eel pass. The alteration works are to enable the abstraction of water for the purpose of hydro-electric power generation at a maximum rate of 24,000 litres per second and for fish and eel passage. All of the water used will be returned to the River Thames immediately downstream of the weir.
