The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from FORTIS IBA LIMITED.

The proposals include the deconstruction and removal of the existing incinerator bottom ash (IBA) processing plant and the construction of a new, replacement plant (replant), within the current permit boundary. 

In addition, a new enhanced IBA recovery facility is to be installed at the Site, which will be located within a fully enclosed building, outside of the current permit boundary. The enhanced IBA recovery facility will further refine the non-ferrous fraction produced from the replant; as well as imported non-ferrous metals from the other Fortis sites.  The plant shall be comprised of a material receipt, storage area and dry and wet separation plants.  Recovered IBA residue will be returned to the adjacent IBA recycling plant for use in the IBAA.
