Smiths Concrete Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from groundwater within the River Terrace Deposits at Wolston Fields Quarry, Wolston, Warwickshire, within the boundary formed by straight lines running between National Grid References SP 39693 75923, SP 40738 75527, SP 39700 74077 and SP 39008 74249.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 272 cubic metres an hour
  • 377 cubic metres a day
  • 88,860 cubic metres a year
  • all year.

The water will be used for the purposes of dust suppression, wheel washing and to top up supply to a freshwater lagoon for subsequent mineral processing.
