Details

On 20 December 2022 the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy granted consent for the Sizewell C (Nuclear Generating Station) Order 2022, which contains within Schedule 21 a deemed marine licence (DML) in accordance with Section 149 of the Planning Act 2008. The Sizewell C (Nuclear Generating Station) Order 2022 has since been amended in September 2023.

The pre-application, examination and development consent order (DCO) documents for this project can be found on the Planning Inspectorate’s website.

On 01 October 2024 the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) received a request from Sizewell C Limited to vary the DML contained within Schedule 21 of the Sizewell C (Nuclear Generating Station) Order 2022.

This variation request concerned changes to the design and associated construction methodology for the Temporary Marine Bulk Import Facility (TMBIF). These changes included the addition of a dredge pocket which would facilitate vessel berthing at the TMBIF.  This variation request also included a minor change to the design of the Beach Landing Facility (BLF).

On 07 November Sizewell C Limited made an additional request to increase the internal tunnel diameter of the Temporary Desalination Plant Intake Tunnel.

On 18 December 2024 Sizewell C Limited requested further, additional changes to the construction of the Combined Drainage Outfall (CDO) dredge pocket and the design and construction of the Temporary Desalination Plant Intake and Outfall Tunnel and Headworks.

On 18 February 2025 Sizewell C Limited requested an additional administrative change to several DML Conditions to list East Suffolk Council (ESC) as a named, compulsory consultee. This change would ensure ESC’s obligations and agreement in line with DCO Requirement 13.

On 01 May 2025 Sizewell C Limited requested an additional, minor change to the design of the TMBIF.

On 12 August 2025 Sizewell C Limited requested further, additional changes to the design and construction of the CDO Outfall Head and the Temporary Desalination Plant Intake and Outfall Heads.

MMO’s decision was to vary the DML as detailed in the Decision Letter and Notice of Variation, effective from 16 October 2025.
