Details of the application

Sibelco UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising of sand at the area between National Grid References; SJ 75118 70741, SJ 75991 69865, SJ 75125 68998 and SJ 74251 69875.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

Conveying materials

  • 330 cubic metres an hour
  • 3,630 cubic metres a day
  • 998,250 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Mineral washing

  • 120 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,320 cubic metres a day
  • 363,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Dust suppression

  • 40 cubic metres a day
  • 7,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for conveying materials, mineral washing and dust suppression. The proposed abstraction lies with the Weaver and Dane Abstraction Licencing Strategy reporting area. As much water as possible which is used for the conveying of materials and mineral washing is recycled back through the processes.
