Details of the application

Sibelco UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 8 of The Water Abstraction (Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2017.

The Environment Agency has received the following abstraction licence application within the Tamar catchment.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water as follows:

  • at an instantaneous rate of 478 litres per second
  • 1,722 cubic metres an hour
  • 41,328 cubic metres a day
  • 1,692,670 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year
  • at an area between National Grid References (NGRs) SX 55848 63165, SX 57473 63054, SX 57499 61637 and SX 55740 61899
  • and also at an area between NGRs SX 57910 60656, SX 58988 60379, SX 58153 59321 and SX 57239 59787
  • from abstraction location underground strata comprising Dartmoor Granite at Lee Moor and Headon Quarries, Ivybridge, Devon.

The water will be used for process water, mineral washing and dust suppression.
