2. Response

Thank you for your request for information which was received on 12 August 2022. We have treated your request in line with the Freedom of Information Act. You made a further request for information which was received on 23 August 2022; this is also being treated in line with the Freedom of Information Act.

I confirm that the SIA holds the information that you have requested.

In respect of the information requested within the request received on 12 August 2022, the information can be found within the attached Excel spreadsheet. When considering the information you need to bear in mind the following:

2.1 Number of approved contractors, 2004 to 2022

The SIA only holds this information in our logs from May 2018, where a monthly breakdown can be provided. Our case management system overwrites the status of an organisation every time it is updated, so we cannot look back at historical data beyond our manually recorded logs.

2.2 Average age of licence holders, 2004 to 2021

The SIA cannot provide averages of historical licence holders’ age due to system limitations. The closest metric that can be provided is the average age at application date of the applicant. This will broadly mirror the average ages of the resulting licence holders.

2.3 Number of male licence holders, 2004 to 2021

The criteria applied to this search was gender declared during application process.

2.4 Number of British, Pakistani, Nigerian, and Italian licence holders, 2004 to 2021

The criteria applied to this search was nationality declared during application process.

2.5 Breakdown by local authority as of September 2021

I can confirm that the information you have requested is exempt under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as the data is readily accessible within the public domain. For ease of use, I have provided you with the link which will take you to our website and the location of the data (see the SIA licence holders statistical data set).
