FOI release

SIA licences, applications and licence holders by year

Published 23 September 2021

1. Request

Please can you tell me:

  • the total number of active licences/new licence applications/active licence holders for each year starting from the earliest record until the last available for the whole of the UK
  • the total number of active licences/new licence applications/active licence holders for each year and activity (security guarding, door supervision, public space surveillance (CCTV), cash and valuables in transit, key holding, vehicle immobilisation and close protection) starting from the earliest record until the last available for the whole UK
  • the total number of licence holders for August 2021 (or latest period) for local authorities

2. Response

I confirm that we hold this information, which can be found in the attached Excel spreadsheet.

Tab 1 covers the first two parts of your request showing a monthly breakdown of active licences by sector/activity, active licence holders, and paid applications received. Tab 2 covers the third part of your request and shows current active licence holders broken down by local authority. This information is up to date as of 20 September 2021.

Please be aware that for historical requests, the criteria is adjusted. Our current reporting normally looks at paid applications and we consider the payment date in our reporting. For historical counts, we have to consider the application made date. This means that direct comparisons cannot be made in respect of historical and current data reports.
