  5. In the years 2022, 2023, and 2024 how many SIA suspensions, following investigation, resulted in revocation?

  6. In the years 2022, 2023, and 2024 how long on average did SIA investigations take to complete for which the outcome was either reinstatement or revocation? In other words, what is the average length of time for which SIA licences are suspended while the licence holders are being investigated?

Response

I can confirm that the SIA does hold some of this information.

Question 1

The SIA has various roles in different departments for investigating and taking action on licence holders who have had their licence(s) suspended or revoked. The total number of staff members employed in these roles is 81. This figure does not include management roles.

Questions 2 and 3

Information about who, what, or where a source of information has come from, whether it be about individuals or companies within the private security industry, is exempt from disclosure under section 41(1) of the Freedom of Information Act. This is because it counts as information that has been provided in confidence to us as a public authority so disclosing it would constitute a breach of confidence actionable by whoever gave it to us.

This page of our website gives more information about how we receive and process intelligence: Report security staff or companies to the Security Industry Authority.

Questions 4 and 5

Some suspended licences will since have expired, meaning no further action was taken. Some licences also may still be suspended. This is why the answers to questions 4 and 5 do not add up to the total number of suspensions for each year.

The figures under the column for the number of licences reinstated relate to the date the suspension was lifted. The figures under the number of licences revoked relate to the date the licence was revoked.

Year Total number of suspensions Number reinstated Number revoked
2022 954 232 325
2023 1,002 156 338
2024 502 94 125
