SIA licence applications by type
Published 1 July 2025
Request
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I am requesting a monthly breakdown from January 2021 to the present (2025) showing:
- the total number of SIA licence applications received
- a split between new applications and renewals for each month
Response
The CSV spreadsheet contains the information you have requested.
The information in the spreadsheet reflects the information on renewals we publish on the SIA website. We explain the definitions we use below.
How we define our application types
This is how we define our application types:
- ‘new application’ – this refers to individuals who never previously held an SIA licence, or who missed the four-month renewal window before their previous licence expired
- renewal application – this refers to individuals who submitted a renewal application for the same licence sector within the four-month window before their previous licence expired
- additional sector application – this refers to individuals who already held a valid SIA licence and applied for an additional licence in a different sector before their existing licence expired
You may also find it helpful to refer to the data we publish on GOV.UK that categorises applications by ‘first time’ and ‘repeat’. ‘First time’ refers to an applicant who has never previously held an SIA licence (is not known to the SIA), and ‘repeat’ refers to an applicant who has held a previous SIA licence (is known to the SIA).
