SIA enforcement actions in Belfast and Edinburgh

  1. How many investigations within the last 12 months has the SIA undertaken in Belfast, Northern Ireland to identify those engaging in licensable conduct without a licence or employing unlicensed persons in licensable conduct?
  2. How many written warnings or improvement notices have the SIA served to individuals and businesses throughout Belfast, Northern Ireland for carrying out illegal activities under the Private Security Industry Act 2001?
  3. Can the SIA provide a breakdown of how many individuals or businesses they found to be employing unlicensed persons in licensable conduct in Belfast and Edinburgh?

I can confirm that the SIA holds this information. Each question has been answered by the SIA’s Compliance and Inspections department and its Criminal Investigations department. Please see a response to each question in turn below.

2.1 Question 1

Compliance and Inspections: Within the last 12 months, there have been 10 investigations in Belfast.

Criminal Investigations: Within the last 12 months, there have been 3 investigations in Belfast.

2.2 Question 2

Compliance and Inspections: There have been no written warnings or improvement notices issued in relation to carrying illegal activities in Belfast under the PSIA.

Criminal Investigations: There have been no written warnings or improvement notices issued in relation to carrying illegal activities in Belfast under the PSIA.

2.3 Question 3

Compliance and Inspections: There were no individuals or businesses found to be employing unlicensed persons in licensable conduct in Belfast and Edinburgh.

Criminal Investigations: 5 individuals and 2 businesses in the Belfast area. None in Edinburgh.
