Sewell Hewitt (Farms) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/035/0005/008, which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising of crag at Hill Farm, Chillesford and Forest Farm, Sudbourne in Suffolk at National Grid References TM 39445 52249 (point A) and TM 40608 53715 (point B).

The applicant has proposed a new abstraction point at National Grid Reference TM 39465 52271 (point C) through a new borehole on the Hill Farm site. Abstraction at this point shall not exceed 10,000 cubic metres (m3) per year, 50 m3 per day, 8 m3 per hour and 2.3 litres per second (l/s), for the purpose of animal watering and welfare all year.

The applicant has also requested a maximum of 69,880 m3 per year, 1,600 m3 per day, 81 m3 per hour and 23 l/s be added to point A for the purpose of spray irrigation (storage) between April and October. These quantities are to be aggregated with the same quantities allocated for spray irrigation (direct), which will have a reduced annual quantity of 4,000 m3. The maximum that would be abstracted between points A and C would not exceed 1,600 m3 per day and 71,000 m3 per year. 4,000 m3 is to be transferred from point A to point B for the purpose of spray irrigation (storage) in between April and October. Abstraction for this purpose shall not exceed 4,000 m3 per year, 900 m3 per day, 40 m3 per hour and 11.2 l/s all year.
