Severn Trent Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency to vary two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 and Section 51 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial numbers 03/28/57/0062 and 03/28/57/0063. This application is part of a programme to help restore sustainable abstraction.

Licence number 03/28/57/0062 authorises the abstraction of surface water at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 45 17 (Blackbrook reservoir) and NGR SK 50 17 (Nanpantan reservoir). This licence allows Severn Trent Water Limited to abstract 14,547.5 cubic metres (m3) of water per day and a total of 2,920,000 m3 per year. Abstraction should not exceed 12,000,000 m3 in any period of five consecutive years.

The variation applied for is to include a Water Level Management Plan for Blackbrook reservoir and to add the compensation flow of 0.136 megalitres (M/l) per day onto this licence.

Licence number 03/28/57/0063 authorises the abstraction of surface water at NGR SK 55 11 (Cropston reservoir) and NGR SK 55 14 (Swithland reservoir). This licence allows Severn Trent Water Limited to abstract 1,625 m3 of water per hour, 39,000 m3 per day and a total of 11,700,000 m3 per year. No more than 28,000 m3 per day and 6,420,000 m3 per year shall be abstracted from the second abstraction point.

The variation applied for is: to remove the hourly rate; to include a Water Level Management Plan for Cropston and Swithland reservoirs; a new compensation flow for Cropston reservoir of 1 M/l per day with the provision to increase this to 2 M/l per day; a new compensation flow for Swithland reservoir of 2 M/l per day with the provision to increase this to 4 M/l per day.
