Geological skills and knowledge is crucial in combating climate change and delivering net-zero targets. Both the UK and Finland are well placed to develop geological solutions to cut emissions due to the excellent knowledge bases and world-class research centres.

To facilitate greater joining up of Finnish and UK expertise, the British Embassy Helsinki and the SIN network, together with GTK, have hosted a series of UK-Finland geoscience workshops for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020 to explore, develop and initiate cross-border natural resource-based research and commercial services opportunities.

Each year the workshop has brought together around 50 attendees from both the UK and Finland, representing research, higher education, mining sector and innovative businesses with cutting-edge technologies
