Details

The Sentencing Bill is a consolidation bill which has been prepared by the Law Commission as part of its Sentencing Code project. It will create a new Sentencing Code which brings together existing procedural provisions which courts in England and Wales need to rely upon during the sentencing process. The Bill does not introduce any new sentencing law, nor does it alter the maximum penalties available for an offence.

The Sentencing Code will assist judges and legal professionals in identifying and applying the law, and should help to reduce the risk of error, appeals and delay in the sentencing process.
