Security operatives guarding ULEZ mobile camera vans

Published 12 December 2023

1. Request

Can you please confirm that:

  1. The security operatives guarding ULEZ mobile camera vans should be displaying their SIA licences while guarding the vans and filming with bodycams.
  2. These security operatives are DBS checked and licensed to use bodycams.

2. Response

I can confirm that the SIA does hold this information.

2.1 Question 1

The SIA has received a high volume of very similar FOI requests and all our responses are published on our website. For information that is accessible via other means, namely via the SIA website, this information is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act. Our response to a request that asked for the same information is here: Clarification on the requirement to display the SIA licence.

2.2 Question 2

All individuals who apply for an SIA licence must undergo a criminality check – this is a pre-requisite of being granted an SIA licence. This criminality check will differ depending on your geographical location. For individuals in England and Wales, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be completed. For individuals in Scotland a Disclosure Scotland check will be completed and for individuals in Northern Ireland an AccessNI check will be completed.

For information in respect of the bodycam part of your request, please see the section on our website dedicated to information on bodycams and SIA licensing: Check if you need an SIA licence to use a bodycam.
