SDC Builders Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from West Melbury Marly Chalk Formation at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, with the area formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References: TL 46176 55136; TL 46298 55195; TL 46342 55100 and TL 46228 55040 to transfer it to Hobson’s Brook at National Grid Reference TL 46306 55097 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 52 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,250 cubic metres a day
  • 225,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 December and 31 July inclusive in each year.

Abstraction will take place for the purpose of dewatering. The applicant has applied to extend their existing licence until 31 July 2021, to increase their overall annual volume, to increase the number of wellpoints within their existing abstraction area, and to lower the Hands Off Level condition on the licence.
