In June 2021, the Council for Science and Technology wrote to the Prime Minister to advise on how to increase innovation capacity in the UK to strengthen our position as a science superpower, level up prosperity around across the country, and provide a framework for how innovation can be harnessed to address the emerging challenges of the future.
The letter recommended action in the following areas:

- Demand
The Council provided more detailed advice on these 4 areas to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
