This competition opened on 27 June 2016 and is now closed for applications.

This aim of this competition is to stimulate the development of innovative remediation treatments for illegal waste sites. It is also to find ways of reducing the negative impact of these sites on the environment.

This competition is part of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) remediation strategy for the Mobuoy Road illegal waste site. We are looking to fund proposals for innovative waste remediation technologies and processes. These should be relevant for the Mobuoy site as well as other illegal sites in Northern Ireland and other regions.

This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition run in partnership with Innovate UK. The Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA), through the NIEA, is funding this competition as part of the Northern Ireland Executive’s pilot SBRI Challenge Fund.

This competition has 2 stages. We have allocated £350,000 to fund up to 6 projects in phase 1 of the competition. This phase is for showing the technical feasibility of proposed concepts. We expect development contracts to last for up to 6 months.

You must register before 17 August 2016.
