The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Salcottstone Brook at National Grid Reference TL 96420 12950 to transfer it to Old Hall Marshes Nature Reserve at Maldon, Essex without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 240 cubic metres an hour
- 5,760 cubic metres a day
- 160,000 cubic metres a year
- between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year
Further details are: The abstraction is for the conservation and management of the water levels throughout the ancient grazing marsh, reedbed, ditches and lagoons.
