This guidance covers all meter measuring systems in use for trade. Part 1 covers meter measuring systems covered by the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID), ie those put on the market on or after 1 October 2006. Part 2 covers meter measuring systems under national control, ie before the MID came into force and during the transitional period. It is addressed to organisations that are required to comply with weights and measures law.
The Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 came into force on 28 December 2016 under the New Legislative Framework (NLF), a common set of principles developed to improve the European internal market. The regulations focus on making procedures more consistent. They replace the Measuring Instruments (Liquid Fuels delivered from Road Tankers) Regulations 2006, but the existing technical requirements are unchanged, so this guidance remains relevant. Specific guidance on the provisions introduced by the NLF will be published by Regulatory Delivery early in 2017.
