Details

This document provides an update on the Competition and Markets Authority’s monitoring of road fuel prices, retail spreads and margins. It includes:

  • average UK pump prices and their components, including retail spread, from the end of February 2025 to the end of May 2025
  • fuel margins for the supermarket and other fuel retailers, from January 2024 to March 2025

This is the second quarterly update report published under our new statutory monitoring function. Our powers to fulfil this function were conferred in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Act 2024, and commenced in January 2025.

Before commencement, we published guidance on how we’ll exercise our information-gathering powers) when we monitor competition in connection with road fuel in the UK. This quarterly report relies on data gathered using our new powers under the DMCC Act 2024.

We asked the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) to submit a summary of the operating cost issues impacting retailers. This is published alongside the update.
