Applies to England

The Environment Agency is proposing to vary (change) licence number 7/34/11/G/0427 held by L.G. Brigham and Sons and to revoke (cancel) licence number 7/34/11/G/0440 held by George J Goff Limited to protect the River Wensum Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

The Environment Agency is required to give notice of this proposal. The Environment Agency give this notice in line with section 52 of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by section 22 of the Water Act 2003) and regulation 31 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Licence number 7/34/11/G/0427 allows the licence holder L.G. Brigham and Sons of:

Walnut Tree Farm
Easthaugh Road
Lyng
Norwich
NR9 5LN

to abstract a total of 401 cubic metres (m³) of water a day, and a total of 13,600 m³ a year, from underground strata comprising of sand and gravel at Lyng in Norfolk. This is in the vicinity of National Grid References (NGR) TG 091 175 and TG 092 175.

The licence holder can abstract water for spray irrigation.

The proposal is to reduce the annual quantity on the licence from a total of 13,600 m³ a year to a total of 3,400 m³ a year and to add a time limit so that the licence expires on 31 March 2024.

For administrative reasons we also propose to update the licence to include a more accurate abstraction point and remove land conditions which are no longer appropriate.

Licence number 7/34/11/G/0440 allows licence holder George J Goff Limited of:

150 Aldersgate Street
London
EC1A 4AB

to abstract a total of 860 m³ of water a day, and a total of 32,000 m³ a year, from underground strata comprising sand and gravel at North Elmham in Norfolk. This is at NGR TF 990 192.

The licence holder can abstract water for spray irrigation.

The proposal is to revoke the licence.

The Environment Agency has made this proposal as part of a programme to help restore sustainable abstraction.
