Details of the application

Richard Hopkins and John Hopkins trading as JT Hopkins and Sons have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Kelfield Sewer at Newlands Farm, Kelfield between National Grid References SE 81391 02295 and SE 82095 01583, and the Gypsy Lane Drain at Intake Farm, Heckdyke, Lincolnshire National Grid Reference SK 79056 96800.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 204 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,448 cubic metres a day
  • 20,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 June and 31 August inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for the spray irrigation of potato crops.

The proposed abstraction is within the Left Bank Level Dependent Management Unit of the Snow Sewer catchment, in the Lower Trent and Erewash abstraction licensing strategy area.
