Details

Operators holding environmental permits have to be competent to deal with the environmental risks associated with their activities.

This guidance sets out requirements for the competence of operators holding environmental permits under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010.

It also explains how the Environment Agency will assess an operator’s competence:

  • when they apply for a new permit or to transfer a permit

  • throughout the life of a permit

This is high level guidance for Environment Agency staff but is made available to help customers too.
