FOI release

Retention rates for SIA door supervisor licence holders

Published 14 April 2026

Request

On 21 December 2023, I submitted a Freedom of Information Act request relating to the statistics surrounding retention of SIA licence holders.

Firstly, I would like to thank you and the team who worked on this data. It appeared to be a significant amount of data to process, and your response gave real insight to the flow of licence holders into and out of the licensable sector.

2 years have now passed, and I would like to see the same data for the period since the last FOI request. The purpose of this is to identify trends within SIA licensed individuals’ willingness to renew their licences.

I have included the original FOI request below to enable you to identify the original FOI and to assist you in identifying the data analysis method previously used to answer that request.

For the purposes of this request, I would like the same data for the period 9 January 2024 to 19 January 2026.

December 2023 request:

The information relating to the number of individuals licensed as an SIA door supervisor who are on their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th licensed period of three years. I would like this data for the previous 10 years to date.

The information relating to the number of SIA door supervisor licence holders who only maintain a licence for a single licensing period of three years and do not continue with maintaining a valid SIA licence after that point.

Response

We can confirm that we hold this information.

We have attached 2 CSV files containing the relevant data requested above.

Repeat renewals

The CSV file named ‘DS licence renewal sequence number’ provides the data in response to this question. Please note that licence holders can apply to renew their licence up to 4 months before their current licence expires.

The criteria used for this report are: active door supervision licence holders as of 1 January 2024, 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026, broken down by how many door supervisor licences the contact has ever held up to that date.

1 licence only

The CSV file named ‘Data DS renewal rate’ provides data in response to this question. While licence holders are able to renew their licence up to 4 months before their previous licence expires, some may not renew in time. To reflect those who renewed after their licence expired, we have applied an extra 6 months to the renewal window post expired licence date. Therefore, data for 2025 and 2026 are not fully reflected within this report.

The criteria used for this report are:

  • information accurate as of 3 February 2026
  • count of door supervisor licence holders by expiry date of their licences and by number of licences renewed
