Owners and operators of reservoirs must follow the requirements of the Reservoirs Act 1975. The Environment Agency may take enforcement action if they are not met.
The Environment Agency issued 12 enforcement notices at 10 reservoirs in England between 1 April 2013 and 31 December 2014.
In most cases, this was enough to resolve the issue. But, in 6 cases it was necessary to take further action and formal warnings were sent to the reservoir owners.
