States the independent position of the Department for Transport Science Advisory Council on research and innovation requirements to support the decarbonisation of transport,

The report includes:

  • a summary of the challenge of decarbonising transport
  • a summary of the challenges and opportunities associated with developing different fuels or energy carriers for different transport modes
  • consideration of transport energy requirements within the future UK energy system as a whole
  • recommendations on how Department for Transport could focus research and innovation to reduce uncertainty around pathways to decarbonisation

This summarises the Science Advisory Council’s conclusions and recommendations at the time the document was finalised. This advice may change over time as new technology, policy and priorities emerge.
