Repairs to Tadpole Bridge 2021: river restriction notice
Published 27 August 2021
When
Sunday 12 September 2021 to Friday 17 September 2021, from 10pm to 5am.
Where
Shifford reach, Tadpole Bridge approximately 1km downstream of Rushey Lock.
Details
The parapet brick work on the bridge has been damaged. Repairs are required to make the bridge safe for both boats passing underneath and those who rely on the bridge as a river crossing.
In order to replace the brick work the road will be closed and a temporary works programme put in place. A Mobile Elevating Work Platform will be used which will reduce the height and width of the bridge. This will reduce the available headway under the bridge from 4.52 metres to 3 metres and the width from 8 metres to approx. 5 metres. A safety boat will also be in place.
Local bridge heights:
Bridge | Headway metres | Headway feet |
Eaton Footbridge | 2.97 | 9’99” |
Radcot Bridge | 3.45 | 11’4” |
Old Man’s Footbridge | 4.27 | 14’0” |
Tadpole Bridge | 4.52 | 14’10” |
Tenfoot Footbridge | 3.71 | 12’2” |
Shifford Lock Cut Bridge | 3.66 | 12’0” |
Newbridge | 3.50 | 11’6” |
Headways are measured above standard head water level of the lock below and at the highest point of the span or arch, therefore the measures given in this table are for guidance only.
River users are reminded that boats going upstream must give way to boats coming downstream.
We apologise for any inconvenience these works cause and thank you for your patience during this time.
