Replacement of the Godstow Trout Weir 2022: river restriction notice

When

From March 2022 until December 2022.

Where

Godstow reach, between Godstow Lock to Godstow Bridge.

Details

There will be disruption on Godstow reach due to construction works for the replacement of the Trout Weir.

Between March and early November 2022, during working hours 7am – 7pm there will be restricted passage through and below Godstow Bridge.

During the day, the western arch of Godstow Bridge will be used for navigation past the works site. Navigation will be controlled by via traffic lights either side of the works.

Outside of working hours 7pm – 7am and at weekends, both arches of Godstow bridge will be in use. Boat masters should be aware that a large pontoon will be moving at times and moored at other times, downstream of Godstow bridge.

Masters of all boats should navigate slowly downstream and maintain a proper lookout from the A34 overbridge which is upstream of the works.

Masters travelling upstream must give way to vessels coming down stream.

All vessels coming out of Godstow Lock must heed any instruction from the Lock Keeper/ Waterways staff and Construction site look-out staff.

Restrictions and closures are signposted at King’s, Godstow and Osney locks.

Byelaws

Nothing contained in these directions shall supersede those parts of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws 1993 and the UK Merchant Shipping (Distress Signals and Prevention of Collisions) Regulations 1996 as may be relevant. Particular attention should be paid to byelaws 24-42 of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws 1993, Steering Sailing and Speed.

And Notice is hereby given, that it is provided by Byelaw 52 of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws 1993 that:

The master of any vessel shall except in an emergency not pass any boat-race regatta public procession or gathering for the launch of a vessel or any other event or function which may cause a crowd to assemble on or by the river nor station his vessel thereon in such a manner as would risk obstructing impeding or interfering with such boat-race regatta procession launching event or function or endangering the safety of persons assembling on the river or preventing or interfering with the maintenance of order thereon.

The maximum penalty for breach of the Byelaws is £1,000.
