Details of the application

Raveningham Farm Partnership has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 7/34/15/*S/0225/R01 which authorises the abstraction of water from the River Chet at Old Hall Carr (Abstraction Pit) at National Grid Reference TM 39039 99811.

The variation applied for is to increase the amount of water to be abstracted between 01 November and 31 March (inclusive) for filling reservoirs for subsequent spray irrigation. This additional water may be used to fill existing reservoirs as well as a proposed new reservoir. The application would increase the annual volume limits for filling reservoirs for subsequent spray irrigation from 152,000 cubic metres per year to 252,000 cubic metres per year. It is proposed that two different limits on the rate of abstraction are allowed, based on flow in the river. The lower rate of abstraction would be the same as the current licensed rate, which is 2,400 cubic metres per day, 100 cubic metres per hour, at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 28 litres per second. The higher rate of abstraction, which may be allowed when river flows are higher, would be 3,024 cubic metres per day, 126 cubic metres per hour, at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 35 litres per second. No other changes have been applied for.

The abstraction point is within The Broads National Park boundaries.
