Ralph M Abel Smith and Thomas R B Abel Smith trading as Woodhall Farming Company has applied to the Environment Agency for 3 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
Woodhall Farming Company has applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Beane at National Grid Reference (NGR):TL 30875 18940.
By means of a concrete weir water will be impounded to split the flow between the River Beane and a new meander channel, which will bypass Broadwater Weir.
The application includes a licence to abstract (take) water from the River Beane at NGR: TL 30843 18898 to transfer it via the new meander channel to the River Beane at NGR: TL 31372 18263 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 852 cubic metres an hour
- 20,448 cubic metres a day
- 7,463,520 cubic metres a year
Abstraction will take place all year.
The application includes a licence to abstract (take) water from the River Beane at NGR: TL 31456 17870 to transfer it via a new pipe to the Stapleford Marsh Ditch at TL 31441 17870 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 18 cubic metres an hour
- 432 cubic metres a day
- 157,680 cubic metres a year
Abstraction will take place all year.
Further details are: the proposal is to bypass two weirs at Woodhall Park to improve fish passage and to create a more natural aquatic and riparian chalk stream habitat. A new meander channel will be constructed to bypass Broadwater Weir. The new weir will split flows between this new channel and the current watercourse.
A second new meander channel will be constructed utilising part of the Stapleford Marsh Ditch and this will bypass Horseshoe Weir. A new pipe will be installed to transfer a flow into the remaining stretch of the Stapleford Marsh Ditch.
