Summary of business appointment applications - Dominic Raab

Published 19 July 2017

Dominic Raab left his position as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice on 15 July 2016.

1. Advisory Board Member, Reliance ACSN Ltd

Dominic Raab sought the Committee’s advice about taking up a paid, part-time appointment as a member of the Advisory Board at Reliance ACSN Ltd, which specialises in IT security.

The Committee noted that the role would involve providing strategic advice to the company, and engaging with industry-wide groups, most notably the Information Assurance Advisory Council, about industry standards.

When considering this application the Committee noted that during his time as Minister Mr Raab had no contact with Reliance ACSN Ltd nor its competitors. It also took into account that the Ministry of Justice had no concerns over this appointment.

The Committee advised the appointment be subject to the following conditions:

  • he should not draw on (disclose or use for the benefit of himself or the organisations or persons to which this advice refers) any privileged information available to him as a Minister; and

  • for two years from his last day in ministerial office he should not become personally involved in lobbying the UK Government on behalf of Reliance ACSN Ltd, its partners or clients, or make use, directly or indirectly, of his contacts in Government and/ or Crown service to influence policy or secure business on behalf of Reliance ASCN Ltd and its clients.

The Committee wrote its advice letter to Mr Raab in December 2016 and the appointment was taken up in January 2017.
